CNN —Brazilian soccer star Dani Alves has left prison after submitting a €1 million bond (approximately $1.08 million) to a Barcelona court required for his provisional release after being convicted of sexual assault, the Supreme Court of Justice of Catalonia said in a statement on Monday. On February 22, the Barcelona provincial court sentenced Alves to four-and-a-half years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in one of the city’s nightclubs in late December 2022. After leaving prison, the 40-year-old will have his Brazilian and Spanish passports confiscated. He is also prohibited from leaving Spanish territory and must make weekly appearances at the provincial court. CNN —Fourteen people were injured, including two seriously, after a tree fell onto the tracks of a children’s roller coaster at an amusement park in the Spanish region of Catalonia Sunday. Strong winds caused the tree to fall on the “Tomahawk” children’s roller coaster at the “PortAventura World” park in Vila-Seca, about 90 kilometers (56 miles) from Barcelona on Sunday morning, according to the park. Catalan emergency services said they had treated the 14 injured people, two of whom were taken to hospital with serious injuries. “This Sunday morning, due to strong winds… there was an incident caused by a tree falling close to the Tomahawk ride,” the theme park said in a statement, per Reuters. MADRID (AP) — Mirroring protests across Europe, thousands of farmers in Spain staged a second day of tractor demonstrations on Wednesday across the country, blocking highways to demand changes in European Union farming policies and measures to combat production cost hikes and severe drought. The protests, involving several thousand people on tractors and in other vehicles, haven't been backed by Spain´s three main farming organizations, which have called for separate protests in the coming days. Barcelona has already been relying on Europe’s largest desalination plant for drinking water, and a sewage treatment and purification plant to make up for the drop in water from wells and rivers. The acting premier’s Socialist Party (PSOE) secured the backing of the Catalan separatist party Junts on Nov. 9 via a deal that included passing a law to grant amnesty to individuals convicted over Catalonia's attempt to secede from Spain in 2017. Thousands of people gathered across Spain on Nov. 12 to oppose the deal. Photographs and livestreams (archived) also captured different angles (archived) of the same protest. The protest was held over the Spanish government’s Catalan-separatist amnesty, not the Israel-Hamas war.

Sanchez had 179 votes in favor and 171 against, with no abstentions. It also represents a remarkable turnaround for Sanchez, who six months ago felt compelled to call a snap election after his party performed poorly in regional elections.
